Medicare Fraud, Waste, and Abuse 2026

The Struggle Is Real For Medicare Fraud, Waste & Abuse!

Medicare fraud, waste and abuse have been rising for many years, and it needs to be addressed and where possible, eliminated.

CMS is finally taking this seriously. In May they suspended adding more home health agencies and hospices. That includes change in ownership of any of these types of businesses. Medicare’s integrity saving program netted a 59% increase in savings from $26.3 billion in FY 2024 to $41.9 billion in FY 2025. That is a major accomplishment. Our government is holding these bad actors accountable for their actions. All I can say is it’s about time.

Finally, our government is doing something to eliminate fraud, waste and abuse in the Medicare system. Everyone involved should be held accountable for their actions, either good or bad. Obviously, the bad actors need to be eliminated and punished for their bad deeds. This has been missing from our government for too long and the current administration is finally doing something about it. Every American suffers from this abuse by loss of government programs meant to help our citizens instead of overpaying these bad actors. Send them to jail where they belong and make them pay restitution for their actions. Every bad actor is closing the American citizen a lot of money and perhaps even delays in service. The delays in service happen because others (who are committing fraud) are ahead of you to receive medical attention. Long wait time for medical services is not uncommon in America and worse in other countries.

The issue is overpayments based on fraudulent claims, which account for 17% of the savings. The largest portion is cost avoidance activities or billing for unnecessary procedures which account for 68% of the savings. Recovery of monies paid account for 15% of the savings.

Would venture a guess that is most of the fraud, waste and abuse could be eliminated in our government spending it is likely that our income taxes could be eliminated.

Yes, there is that much fraud in the government and in Medicare specifically. We all need to encourage Congress to act. I assume they won’t, but this administration is doing the digging to eliminate the fraud, waste and abuse and every American should be thankful for the government’s actions in these endeavors.

I applaud the government’s actions and hope they move to other areas of fraud, waste and abuse and eliminate that as well.
