Wellness Check Under Medicare 2025

Free Wellness Checkup

The wellness provision under Medicare Part B (office visits) allows for an annual wellness visit. There are specific tests that the Doctor can run to assess your current health status. Whether you have just Original Medicare, an Advantage plan or a Medicare Supplement this annual wellness visit is at no charge.

Unfortunately, about 70% of seniors do not take advantage of this provision. This is especially true of those that have just Original Medicare (they assume incorrectly that they owe the 20% that Medicare disallowed) and Medicare Supplement clients who mostly just don’t bother. The Advantage clients have those provisions included with the plan, yet most don’t take advantage. Some would suggest that they don’t have the time or make the time or are just too lazy to avail themselves of the benefit.

Would also put the blame on the doctors who simply don’t mention it to their patients. I fall into the category of lazy as I haven’t always taken advantage of that provision of Medicare. That needs to change and the main reason for this blog is to encourage everyone on Medicare (regardless of how you get your Medicare to take advantage of the wellness provision of Medicare and take care of your health).

Medicare Services
Medicare Services

These are the provisions of the wellness check that your doctor must follow:

· Routine measurements (like height, weight, and blood pressure).

· A review of your medical and family history.

· A review of your current prescriptions.

· Personalized health advice.

· Advance care planning.

· A screening schedule (like a checklist) for appropriate preventive services. · An optional “Social Determinants of Health Risk Assessment” to help your provider understand your social needs and their impact on your treatment.

In the future I intend to mention this on every Medicare prospect visit and explain the no cost for this benefit and how to take advantage of this option. It is critical for every senior to use this option to keep healthy and perhaps even catch something before it gets out of hand.

I hope this information is useful and if anyone has questions, please contact me via phone or email and I will respond quickly.
